For the Love of Music

I now shall tell a tale of love so true;
A sound that in my ears does sound so sweet.
My music helps me when I’m feeling blue;
I need it as a peasant needs his wheat.

Oh how I want to hear a voice so strong,
To be my help when I so troubled am.
I pray that I could listen to it long;
I’d be as gentle as a little lamb.

But if my life were nothing but a song,
Another kind of love indeed I’d lack.
I’d find out all too late that I’d done wrong.
For it is true; it cannot love me back.

‘Tis true; a lovely tune gives me a thrill,
The love of man and woman better still.
